Samburu tour- Matthews ranges
December 4 @ 5:30 am - December 6 @ 7:00 pm
The Lenkiyio ranges also known as Matthews ranges are located in Kenya’s Northern frontier and is one of the wildest areas in the country.
The ranges runs for 150km from north to south and its highest peaks include Warges and Ol Doinyo Lenkiyio, at 2688m and 2375m above sea level respectively. It is the final frontier before Lake Turkana and altogether a very dramatic destination! The geography of the Lenkiyio range includes vast forests of cycads and juniper, surrounded by sprawling plains.
Ewaso Ng’iro River is the only permanent river in the region that cuts deep gorges through the mountains. The river is fed by seasonal mountain range streams where indigenous flowering shrubs and prehistoric cycad palms flourish. Lenkiyio ranges is covered with thick indigenous forest as you approach the craggy peaks and beautiful open clearings.
Lenkiyio indigenous forest is one of the very few areas where you can see the rare De Brazza Monkey outside the Ruwenzori Mountains. They are large monkeys, similar to a Sykes in size and build, but more striking with a red forehead, they are shy and hard to find.
Join us as we explore Lenkiyio Mountain range in Samburu county, experience natures diversity and deep wild life.
